Campus Under Construction: Building a Better Thiel!
As summer proceeds, renovations continue around campus in anticipation for the return of students in the fall. Here is a quick update on just a few projects we are working on to better serve our students.
Framing for the new greenhouse is nearing completion on the new site, north of the Rhodehouse Science Building. Once complete the greenhouse will be a year round use facility with standalone water, heating and electrical services. The facility will be fully operational prior to the start of fall classes.
Renovations in Bly Hall are moving forward at a rapid pace! New seating is expected to arrive and upgrades to the lighting will include the installation of LED bulbs. A significant upgrade to the technology in the room has been designed and ordered so that Bly Hall will have a state of the art audio and visual system with the most current available components. A dedication ceremony and new faculty meet and greet reception is scheduled in the new space during homecoming.
Construction also continues on the first floor of Roth Hall to create a new home for the Business Office, Financial Services and Human Resources. Be sure to check out our Facebook page for more photos and facility updates around campus.
Honors Students Explore Italy
In May, Dietrich Honors Scholars spent two weeks exploring. The six traveling scholars, along with Dr. Curt Thompson (director of DHI) boarded a plane for a trip of a lifetime to the great country of Italy for a time they will never forget! Stops were made in Venice, Florence, Pompeii, Tuscany, and Assisi with many site-seeing opportunities along the way. This is one of many new enriching "honors abroad" travel experiences made possible for DHI students thanks to the generous $25 million gift given to the college last year by the late William S. Dietrich II in honor of his parents. Learn firsthand about their experience by viewing their daily blog from the trip on Thiel Happenings!
Thiel is Everywhere!
Alumni, here is a chance to show your TC pride all over the world! Submit a photo, wearing your Thiel gear or reading The Bell from a unique place that you have traveled. We would like to see just how global Thiel's influence can be. Submissions will be featured in Pawprints and The Bell in the upcoming months. Be sure to include your class year and photo location.
Alumni Voices are Heard
Nearly 80 voices filled the David Johnson Memorial Chapel for the 60th Thiel Choir Reunion concert on Saturday, June 29 directed by Dr. Michael Bray. Alumni gathered Thursday evening for a short rehearsal and director's reception in the chapel and some stayed overnight on campus. Friday brought more rehearsing throughout the day and an evening of reminiscing hosted at the home of John Hauser '71. Alumni had a chance to walk around campus and view some old choir archives. A luncheon was held Saturday afternoon and a video of the choir's late founding director, Dr. Marlowe Johnson H'02 conducting a rehearsal was shared. A number of reunion attendants also shared fond memories from past choir tours and what an important role the Thiel Choir played in shaping their Thiel experience.
This year's reunion concert repertoire included past choir favorites such as: A Mighty Fortress is Our God, Salmo 150 (Ernani Aguier), Six Folk Songs (Brahms), Oh My Love's Like a Red Red Rose (Rene Clausen), and of course ended with Beautiful Savior. All choir alumni are invited to campus for Homecoming Weekend to join Dr. Bray and his wife, Becky, as they host the annual Choir Alumni Breakfast on campus and share their voices once again.
Send Your Business Card to the Career Development Office
The Office of Career Development is requesting business cards from former graduates to compile a directory for our current students.
This directory will serve several purposes: first, it will allow students to see what companies, businesses and corporations with which our graduates are actively involved, second, it will show students what types of employment options they have in relation to their major; third, the directory will serve as an invaluable networking tool, linking our soon-to-be graduates with other proud Tomcats who are leaders in their respected fields.
If you're interested in assisting with the business card directory, please mail three up-to-date business cards to: Office of Career Development, Thiel College, 75 College Avenue, Greenville, PA 16125.
Thank you for your help with this meaningful project for our students!
