Dr. Henry Haller H’97
Above: 2011-12 Haller Award recipients
We are saddened to share the passing of Dr. Henry Haller. In 1997, Dr Haller and his first wife, Grace Mary, made an institution changing $1 million gift to Thiel to endow the Haller Enterprise Institute. Since that time hundreds of students have benefitted from the Haller family’s vision and generosity; students who have gone on to become successful professionals in a variety of industries. A hallmark of the program is that scholarships are given on the strength of the idea not the major of the student involved. Since its inception the Institute has involved men and women of every major on Thiel’s campus.
With the passing of Grace Mary, Dr. Haller maintained his connection to the Institute. In fact, his passion for the program was truly the guiding force behind its success. Several times a year, Dr. Haller and his second wife, Linda Boyce Haller, whom he married in 2000, would invite Professor and Mrs. Miller to the Duquesne Club to discuss the program. He was always most interested in the stories of the students, the successes and challenges Thiel students were facing. He cared about the students as individuals.
Dr. Haller was a leader who invested in others, a believer who allowed students to dream, a consummate professional who provided young men and women with the tools necessary to build their futures, and a beloved member of the Thiel Family. While we are saddened by his loss, we remain grateful for his vision, leadership and generosity. We are committed to continuing his legacy, with the guidance of his beloved wife Linda. Henry is forever a part of the fabric of Thiel College and we are better individuals for having known him. He will be both missed and remembered and his legacy will live on in the students and alumni of the Haller Enterprise Institute.
